The shipwreck is one of the most photographed beaches in the world. In many books and magazines described as the best attraction of the island and one of the most famous beaches in Greece.

The beach is accessible only by boat, starting from different regions of the island, such as the town of Zakynthos, Alykes, Agios Nikolaos and Skinari. However, the Shipwreck beach can be reached by car as it is located relatively close to the village of Anafonitria, 30 kilometers northwest of the county capital. For those who see the beach from above, they must get to the monastery of Saint George of the Cliffs. Below the monastery is a steel platform that is literally in the air, with beach views and the surrounding coastline.

In 1983 a ship carrying smuggled cigarettes and drinks in Greece was identified by the Coast Guard who pursued it in bad weather, causing the ship to run aground on a beach and stay in the sand. Thus the Shipwreck was created.

It is one of the places you must visit when you come in Zakynthos. The beautiful turquoise color of the sea will enchant you!
